Astrology Resources

It's hard finding free and reliable astrology resources, so here's a list of my favorite ones!

(I'll update this if I come across more.)

Astro Dienst (astro.com)

Astro Dienst is by far one of the most used sources in the astrological community. It's mostly known as a chart calculation site, but it also has lots of amazing articles on different astrological terms, traditions, and techniques! Their 'All about Astrology' tab has a ton of great information. Not only do they have articles written by the creators of the site, they also publish other astrologers' work on what they specialize in. You may see one of your favorite astrologers featured on there in an article!

Skyscript

Skyscript also has a lot of incredibly helpful articles! It seems to be more focused on traditional concepts and techniques (which I believe is extremely important for us to use, even in modern times). There is also a big forum on Skyscript where astrologers, students, and enthusiasts ask questions and discuss different techniques, which can be very helpful if you have a specific question that you think someone else may have already asked before.

The Astrology Podcast

The Astrology Podcast is probably my favorite resource! On this podcast, Chris Brennan discusses a wide variety of techniques, astrology forecasts, and many other topics with fellow astrologers from all sorts of different astrological traditions and backgrounds.

The Astrology Dictionary

The Astrology Dictionary is extremely helpful if you're needing to figure out what a specific astrological term is, or just wanting to become familiar with the astrological language!

Soul Friend Astrology

Soul Friend Astrology has tons of great, in depth articles on their blog covering all sorts of topics. My favorite recent series from the owner of this site is individual, extremely detailed posts on interpreting the houses in a natal chart.

Patrick Watson Astrology

Patrick Watson is one of my favorite astrologers, and they post a lot of very engaging posts on many topics. They aren't afraid of addressing issues in modern astrology, and they always back up their arguments with very straightforward logic, which I really appreciate.

Astrology Weekly

Astrology Weekly has some good articles and also has a sort of forum where people discuss questions and techniques in astrology. A lot of it is very helpful, and they do have some educational articles too! Some of the articles posted there are submitted by people who participate in the forums, so there's not exactly one specific approach to astrology throughout the site. Take what you read there with a grain of salt, because there are some conflicting approaches between astrologers.

The Mountain Astrologer

The Mountain Astrologer is an Astrology magazine, which does require a subscription, but they have a page of articles for astrology beginners that's helpful if you're just starting out!

Kepler College

Kepler College is an astrology school that offers courses, webinars, and more. Their main courses cost money, but the link I used is to their page of articles published by astrologers and students attending courses. There are articles on everything from mythology to astronomy in astrology! They also have FREE webinars from time to time, where all you have to do is register (for free) and you can watch the talk live or be emailed the link to the recording afterwards!

Seven Stars Astrology

Seven Stars Astrology is one of my favorite resources on ancient astrology (which, again, I think is important to know at least a little bit of, even if you use modern astrology). They have a nice beginners

section with very rich topics, and their 12 Easy Lessons for Beginners series of posts is great to start out with for learning the fundamentals of traditional astrology and where modern astrology came from!

Astrology Books I Recommend

On The Heavenly Spheres by Helena Avelar and Luis Ribeiro

This is probably my favorite astrology book right now. It goes over the basics of traditional astrology's techniques. If you haven't looked into traditional astrology yet, it's much more packed with information and covers all of the vague or completely missing pieces that modern astrology hardly ever touches on. This book goes over planetary condition, the lots, essential dignities, and SO much more.

Stephen Arroyo's Chart Interpretation Handbook (by Stephen Arroyo)

This is another really good introductory book! It also goes over the foundations of natal astrology from a more modern perspective. This is another short and simple, all-in-one book.

Houses: Temples of the Sky by Deborah Houlding

This book is perfect for getting to know the meanings of each house. Most all-in-one books don't focus on the houses for very long, or they use the "alphabet method" (Aries = 1st house, Taurus = 2nd house, Gemini = 3rd house, and so on). This book gives the traditional meanings of the houses instead of the modern "alphabet method", along with what the houses mean in horary and mundane astrology.

Retrograde Planets: Traversing the Inner Landscape by Erin Sullivan

It's extremely hard to find sources with accurate interpretations of retrograde planets in natal and progressed charts, and this book goes through ALL of it! It even goes over synodic cycles and planetary speed of the planets, which I believe is valuable information if you're interested in traditional astrology at all.

Traditional Astrology Course by Helena Avelar and Luis Ribeiro

This book is written by the same authors as the first book I listed, and it's meant to be read alongside 'On the Heavenly Spheres'! It covers all the same material, but this book is loaded with much more content and full examples of how to delineate and interpret an astrological chart.

Essential Astrology by Amy Herring

Another great intro book. This gives a nice layout of the foundations of astrology. It doesn't skip too much important info, but still keep things short and simple. This book even has a whole section on synthesizing and interpretation techniques!

The Changing Sky by Steven Forrest

This is my favorite introductory book to predictive astrology! Forrest is one of my favorite astrologers overall, and in this book he talks about progressions, transits, and other types of predictive techniques.

Aspects in Astrology by Sue Tompkins

This book is a great introduction to aspects in natal charts! If you have trouble finding books or sites that give you more than just "trine is good, square is bad", then this is a great place to start.
